Note; This project requires some patience, the skill to bend wire, hot glue stuff and spray paint. Please ask an adult for help. Thank you and craft safe.
I am a huge fan of copper so when I decided to make this I knew I wanted to use my copper spray paint but you can use gold or just white or get inventive. I'd love to see what you come up with so please send me pictures of your finished carriage to me on social media. You can also share a link below in the comments if you posted it.
Alright lets get onto the project. I only photographed the project before painting but it's actually simple. Take soft wire for the design (you could use puff paint but I didn't have any, I did however have some scrap wire that was plastic coated.)
For the design on the body I used a large plastic ornament that opens in two parts. Just free form the designs that you want, I went with squiggle S shaped things. I also used some plastic flat back hearts and put an M in wire on the backside for my name to personalize it a little bit. I hot glued everything down after making sure it would fit the curve of the carriage and worked one piece at a time gluing when I completed a part instead of making it all and then attaching so nothing would get mixed up. For the door I made sure to cut it so I could still open the container but if your plans are for never opening it, you can also glue the ornament shut.
For the wheels I curved copper wire making two swirls and a straight piece. I glued the middle part onto a square I used to attach to the base of the carriage with a lot of hot glue (you'll see how messy that is later.) For the axles I just hot glued pieces of disposable chopsticks which also stabilized the wheels a bit.
A photo so you could see some of the design. I used wire and hot glue for the raised bits. This was not as hard as it looks, just time consuming. |
The inside is painted white helping you see the design better. |
This is with the outside freshly painted. Okay is it just me or does that trash bag I have underneath it look amazing in copper with all those wrinkles? |
Disclaimer; this idea is an original I spent months developing so if try it and post it, could you please let people know where to find the original. Thank you so much for reading and sharing.
